About M.E. Kerr
M.E. Kerr, author of such works as Dinky Hocker Shoots Smack!,
Him She Loves?, What I Really Think of You, Little Little, Love
is a Missing Person, Gentlehands, Hello, I Lied, Me Me Me Me: Not a
Novel, and Deliver Us From Evie, was edited by Charlotte. Here
is what she has to say about it:
M.E. Kerr on being edited by CZ
"Charlotte's soft voice and gentle manner reflected her great heart
and sensitivity,
and was camouflage for the powerful, autonomous publisher she was.
"When something went wrong (in my case a book
jacket I hated!) Charlotte knew how to take care of it, and did. A
creative person to the bone, Charlotte was sensitive to her author's feelings,
the only editor I ever worked with who perceived that an author was gnawing on
her knuckles until she heard how "Harper" felt about her book.
Charlotte got back to you immediately. When I heard that lovely purr
coming through my telephone, often the very next day after a submission (imagine
an editor doing that these days!) my spirits lifted and I thanked The Fates for
her.
"Now in her retirement I hope she's finding some time and peace to do
something
else she does so well: write her poetry, deceptively simple, until you try to
haunt your reader as well as she manages to do.
"Cheers for Charlotte on her birthday, and love forever. "
