Maurice Zolotow, Charlotte's husband for 33 years. A writer, primarily of show business biographies, he was about 26 when this photograph was taken. The two were married on April 14, 1938, and divorced in 1969, but remained friends after the divorce, up to Maurice's death in March 14, 1991.

Charlotte, right, trim, dashing, elegant, intelligence gleaming from her eyes: a marvelous portrait, photographer unknown, taken around this time.

To left: May, 1967: Charlotte, Ellen (exactly two years before she became Crescent Dragonwagon), and two of Ellen's roommates from Stockbridge School, which Ellen attended in 1967-68. The school, fictionalized, would later become pivotal in the novel she published, as Crescent Dragonwagon, The Year It Rained. The book was published in 1985, by Macmillan.

This is CZ very much as CD recalls her during her (CD's) growing up years.
