On “ a golden, windy autumn day”, a mother and daughter go walking among
the swirling leaves. As they have the small adventures that Charlotte
describes so well --- seeing a kitten, noticing the leaves’ colors, the
setting sun coloring the clouds, even “a piece of fluff from some
milkweed”, the little girl keeps urging her mother to “Say
it.”
What it is isn’t revealed until the last page of the book… and,
it turns out for both mother and daughter, it was being said all
along. |

My name is Kelly
A. I am a Literacy Coach at Brentwood Elementary in Sarasota, Florida.
I heard your book
Say It!
read aloud this past week at a workshop presented by Dr.Timothy Rasinski.
I want to share
a story with you. When I was a small child, maybe 3 or 4, my grandmother
used to read me the same book over and over. Bits and pieces of that
"special story" have always remained in my memory, even after 27
years. Unfortunately my grandmother passed away on my 16th birthday and
I never did find out the title of the book she used to read. Two and
half years ago, I gave birth to my own daughter, Haley (named her after
my grandmother).
I have spent many hours searching for the book that my grandmother read
to me so that I could read it to Haley. You have no idea how happy I
was last Wednesday when Dr. Rasinski read your book
Say It!
It was the long lost book I have been searching for and I knew it by the
end of the first page. I want to thank you for writing it. I know that
it will bring my daughter as much joy as it has brought me.
Best Wishes,
Kelly A |

How amazing it is to
think that books Charlotte wrote, long, long ago (27 years in the case
of Say It,
but some of her books were written more than 50 years ago), are still
giving readers, teachers, parents and children so much pleasure… indeed,
as Kelly says, joy. |
Charlotte herself is
now in her 90’s.
